Custom Army Challenge CoinsDesigning custom military challenge coins for the US Army is always exciting for us. We find that the troops become completely immersed int the design process, right along side our designers. To say Army soldiers are enthusiastic about their custom coins would be a certain understatement. The US Army is routinely engaged in operations as they relate to peacetime, conflict, and war. The level of actual combat involvement varies among conflict and war categories. Some recent activity examples include anti terrorism, peacekeeping, and peace enforcement around the globe. Most notably, the Afghanistan Invasion that commenced in 2001 was led by the Army, and shortly thereafter the Iraq Campaign in 2003. With the ever changing landscape of the Middle East Conflict, the role of the Army shifted to focus more on counterinsurgency as the rates of IED deployment increased. Military coins are our “bread and butter”, with Army coins taking up a fairly large share of our production work. We truly enjoy working with the Army, and can be reached by email or phone to discuss the specific requirements of your military coins. Should you have all your artwork ready to go for us, please submit the information thru our quote form and we will deliver to you, within 24 hours or less, a complete email showing your coin and itemized pricing. Read why our custom coins impress the military. Army challenge coins commemorate great numbers of people, places and events important to the history of the United States Army, including well known Army divisions, operations, and the men and women of the Armed Forces who displayed exemplary valor on duty. Army challenge coins can be collected as memorabilia and for their numismatic value, and are also formally issued within the Forces. They may be worn or displayed. The wide-ranging scenes, ranks and characters depicted on these military medallions allow them to boost morale as well as play a role as visual aids in the teaching of military history. Division Tokens The United States Army contains different military units (divisions), which are usually comprised of between 10,000 and 15,000 soldiers. There are presently ten active divisions in the U.S. Army: An Armored division, a Cavalry division, four Infantry divisions, one Mountain division and two Airborne Divisions. Found within the National Guard are eight more Infantry divisions. Army challenge coins that honor divisions are highly popular. Some of the divisions have nicknames represented on the medallions, such as the “Old Ironsides” of the 1st Armored Division, the “Big Red One” of the 1st Infantry Division, the “Screamin’ Eagles” of the 101st Airborne division and “Hell On Wheels” of the 2nd Armored Division. Such challenge coins often depict forces in action, or the specialized combat vehicles used by these divisions; often, they can be engraved.
Army Operations Challenge Coins The recent operations in Iraq have resulted in the issue of operations tokens. Soldier’s families have collected Army challenge coins with themes of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom to show their support for U.S. Army forces that are fighting or have fought abroad. The issue of operations-related challenge coins is not, however, a new phenomenon. During the Persian Gulf War (the 2nd of August, 1990 – the 28th of February, 1991), Operation Desert Storm coins were issued. Less recently, army coins commemorating and honoring operations of World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam war, were produced. What about that “Hooah?” What is that? The term is actually a battle cry adopted by several modern branches in the United States, as well as Canada. Before you go using “hooah” in everyday life, you may want to read up on its use:
Some identifiable weaponry is commonly used on Army challenge coins. The Apache AH-64D Longbow is often used in 3D configuration, as well as the UH-60 Blackhawk. Mobile systems like the Patriot Missile System made by Raytheon / Lockheed Martin have also been used. The most popular implementation among infantry coins is the use of the highly-versatile M-249 5.56mm automatic rifle. Rounding out the list, the M1A2 tank developed by General Dynamics always makes a great centerpiece for either side of the coin. This list is certainly not exhaustive – we can use any weapon, aircraft, building, insignia, or countless other items in the design. Your imagination is the only limiting factor.
We have a number of materials available for your army challenge coins, including high polish or antique gold, silver, bronze or black nickel. The high polish look is smart and shiny, but the aged look provides depth and intensity to match the intensity of your troops. We can make standard round coins, but we are also capable of rendering coins in unique shapes. We do offer hard enamel as well as
